Catalog Description: 361 Materials Laboratory II. II; 2cr. Principles and experiments in metallography, thermal analysis, diffusion and deformation. Mechanical property determination. P:MS&E 351 or con reg & MS&E 360 or equiv.

MS&E 360
Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

Basic understanding of the language of materials science and engineering, crystallography, crystal structure, microstructure, mechanical properties, and electrical properties of materials
Introduction to the concepts of structure-property relationships
Experience in metallography
Experience in writing technical laboratory reports
Textbook(s) and/or other required material

Course objectives

To develop students' experience a wide range of materials phenomena
To develop the students' knowledge of techniques of materials characterization
To develop the students' skills in standard experimental methods analysis techniques
To develop the students' technical communication skills

Lecture: 1 hour per week Laboratory: 3 hours per week
