University of Wisconsin Madison College of Engineering

Support a Project!

We invite companies to support senior thesis (capstone) projects. Details on how to set up senior design projects can be found here. With industrial support of senior design, students benefit by access to real world projects. Industry benefits by access to students and by helping to influence the educational mission of the department

WIMSEA

Senior design is a primary motivation behind our industrial affiliates program, or WIMSEA (Wisconsin Idea: Materials Science and Engineering Affiliates). You are invited to attend any of the WIMSEA meetings, held twice per year, where for a nominal admission fee you can witness student presentations, engage with students, both undergrad and grad, and obtain copies of student resumes to help with hiring, internships and co-op. You can also learn about the latest in faculty research and materials characterization facilities. WIMSEA meetings also provide a forum for industrial input into the department strategic mission.

Guidelines for supporting:
  • The department requests $7000+expenses to help us provide infrastructure and support for our undergrads.
  • A sponsoring company might need to make available specialized equipment and materials.
  • We request that companies pay for instrument time on campus user facilities (on-campus rate) if these need to be used.
  • Students are not to be paid for the time spend on projects.
  • The best projects are ones that have some likelihood of success, are long-term, not fire-fighting, do not contain too much proprietary information.
