| Sensors, Signal Processing and Real-Time Controls Integration |
This laboratory investigates the application of optical, electromagnetic and electrostatic methods to sensing and controlling mechanical variables. Optimal estimation theory is used as a tool in developing robust methods for signal processing. The sensing and signal processing systems are integrated into real-time computer control systems using modern control theory approaches. Experimental and analytical work includes optical image and optimal estimation issues, holographic micro-displacement sensing, and electrostatic and electromagnetic force sensing and actuation. The laboratory is equipped with optical bench equipment, multiple control computers, and software development workstations for digital signal processing and substantial general purpose instrumentation.
