Structural Dynamics and Vibrations Research Group

Linear and nonlinear dynamic systems response, ranging from structural vibrations to flow-induced oscillations, are studied here. Research areas include the dynamic response of large space structures, machine tools, measurement systems, nuclear reactors, internal combustion engines, and pressure vessels. Modeling and verifying system response is accomplished using closed form analyses, numerical methods, and experimental measurements. Modeling and system parameter identification is conducted in the Computational Mechanics Lab, equipped with high-end computer workstations for finite element analysis and numerical simulation. The Vibrations and Structural Dynamics Labs include shakers, shock tables, and multi-axis controllers with equipment available for high-speed data acquisition, spectral analysis, digital signal processing, and modal analysis modeling and verification.
