MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
t’s hard to believe that summer has passed so quickly and already we are beginning to see students returning to campus for the fall semester. By the time classes begin, we hope to have all of our research groups up and running in the new Mechanical Engineering Building, and all instructional facilities should be operating at full capacity as well.
Previously, we had faculty and research laboratories scattered among five buildings on the engineering campus. We are extremely pleased to have everyone who was relocated for the renovation moved back into the ME Building. The discipline-specific arrangement of our offices and laboratories promotes conversation, communication and collaboration. As a result, all our faculty, staff and students benefit.
If you are in the Madison area, we welcome you to visit the department and tour the facilities. In addition, we’re very grateful to the donors who so generously supported the ME Building project.
One purpose of this newsletter is to highlight the accomplishments of our faculty, staff and students. Awards, honors and research successes are among the achievements you’ll find in these pages. Please take time to read about our student vehicle teams, which had an exceptional season.
Also, I would like to welcome two of our newest department faculty members, Assistant Professors Ryan Kershner and David Rothamer; both began in January of this year and are already well engaged in research and teaching.
Finally, we wish the very best to Professor Ed Lovell, who retired at the end of the spring semester after serving the department and the college for the last 40 years.
Best regards,
Roxann
