Duane Abata, who holds BS (1972), MS (1973) and PhD (1977) degrees in mechanical engineering from UW-Madison, was named earlier this month as dean of the College of Engineering and Technology at Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona. Abata comes to the post from the National Science Foundation, where he served as program director in the engineering education and centers division. Abata previously taught and held administrative posts at Michigan Tech University.

Chad Sorenson

Chad Sorenson (BS '99, MS '01), 2000 first-place Schoofs Prize for Creativity winner, is featured in the March 2003 issue of Progressive Farmer for his company's wireless anhydrous tank-monitoring system, the Fluent NH3 Monitor. The system allows farmers to continuously monitor fluid levels in the tank as well as the application rate per acre during fertilization.
