Lih-Sheng Turng and Yuri Shkel have joined the ME department as new assistant professors.
Lih-Sheng (Tom) Turng
|
Turng comes to UW-Madison from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he has been leading a team to develop a web-based Knowledge Management System to collect information relative to injection molding. He received his PhD in 1990 from Cornell's Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, where he also earned his MS degree in 1987 with a minor in polymer engineering. Turng received his BS in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1981.
Yuri M. Shkel
|
Turng's research focus is on computer-aided engineering for gas-assisted injection molding. He will begin teaching Fundamentals of Injection Molding in the fall semester.
Shkel has been a research associate with the Rheology Research Center and the UW Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering since 1995. He received both his PhD and his MS from Moscow State University in Russia in 1989 and 1984, respectively. His PhD thesis was entitled "Effect of Particle Distribution on Rheological and Magnetic Properties of Ferromagnetic Fluids."
Shkel's research interests include the design and modeling of electro- or
magneto-mechanical systems, mechanical systems with electric and magnetic field
control of torque and stress transfer.
