A newsletter for alumni, students, and friends of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
The UW Formula Car team took home second place in the Formula SAE World Championship in May in Detroit, a national competition that drew 110 entries.
The students' car was judged on design, speed, handling, and a theoretical business and marketing plan. The $2,000 prize money will go toward building next year's car, according to team leaders Chris Gilligan and Mark Polster, who were both ME seniors. Gilligan and Eric Wobig, another ME senior, were the car's drivers.
Sponsored by Ford Motor Company, as well as local donors, the year 2000 car cost $25,000 to build. It will be on display at next spring's Engineering EXPO.
