As of July 1, 1999, Professor Neil A. Duffie began his duties as the new departmental chair for the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Duffie has been on the faculty of the department since 1980, joining shortly after he received his PhD in mechanical engineering at UW-Madison. He earned his BS degree in computer science and an undesignated MS degree in mechanical and electrical engineering, both at UW-Madison.
A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Duffie's fields of interest include
robotics, computer control, manufacturing systems, precision
engineering, and computer-integrated manufacturing. He also has
served as director of the Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics.
