    Summary

    Professor Milestone's research interests include mechanical design and design methodologies, design team and design project management, metal fatigue and fracture, failure and failure mode analysis, computer-aided design, and hybrid electric vehicle technology.

    Milestone's current research projects include designing, building and testing hybrid electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicle technologies, and methods for the integration of design and manufacturing.

    At the undergraduate level he teaches courses in the design of machine elements and numerous design project courses. At the graduate level he teaches courses on fatigue and failure analysis and design methods. He also serves as the faculty advisor to the UW student Hybrid Electric Vehicle and Team Paradigm projects.

    Milestone is a member of the Design Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is a consultant to industry in the areas of machine design and design analysis, failure analysis, and patents and trade secrets. He has served on numerous technical committees of several professional societies and on the state and national product safety and standards committees.
