    Summary

Professor Klein is a member of the Solar Energy Laboratory and has been involved in many studies of solar energy processes. He developed the F-Chart method for sizing solar heating systems, and the TRNSYS simulation program widely used in simulations of solar processes. He is the co-author of more than 120 publications relating to the analysis of energy systems.

Currently, Klein is involved in research on fuel cell systems, absorption refrigeration, adsorption processes for air quality control, and alternative refrigerants and systems for refrigeration and air conditioning applications. He is one of the developers of the NIST REFPROP 6 Refrigerant Properties Database program and the NIST/ASME Steam Properties program.

Klein is also involved in developing engineering computer tools for both instruction and research. He is the primary author of the thermodynamics instructional program, CP/Thermo, the finite element program, FEHT, and the general equation solving program EES.
