564 Heat Transfer. II; 3 cr. Applications of conduction, convection, and thermal-radiation principles to combined-mode problems; analytical and numerical techniques; heat-exchanger design; thermal stresses. P: ME 364 or equiv or cons inst.

Conservation of mass, momentum and energy
Ordinary differential equations
Numerical methods (Integration, matrix methods)
Basic course in heat transfer

Course objectives

This course is intended to increase the students ability to build mathematical (or numerical) models of real heat transfer systems.

Convection - Theory. (5 classes)
Convection - working equations. (4 classes)
Heat exchangers - analysis and design. (3 classes)

Special design project class presentations (e.g., heater design for electric car, cooling of Pentium chip in a laptop). (2 classes)
