437 Advanced Welding Processes and Material Selection. I, II; 3 cr. Analysis of industrial welding problems. Material and process description and selection. Corrosion control and fracture prevention, hydrogen damage, hot cracking, weld defects and prevention, automatic control of welding processes. P: ME 313 or equiv or cons inst.

Elementary knowledge of commercially important welding processes
Elementary load and stress analysis
Basic ferrous metallurgy

Course objectives

This course is designed to give seniors and graduate students in mechanical and metallurgical engineering the ability to chose engineering materials for specific applications; to select welding processes and procedures to weld specific materials; to design engineering structures against brittle failure and environmental attack.
