More than gears: Innovative technologies for the world

All engineers solve problems. Mechanical engineers get to pick the most interesting problems, because we consider our field to be the most wide-ranging, versatile and flexible. By choosing mechanical engineering, you’ll be learning how natural elements in our world work, like heat and cold; fluids, solids and gases; metals, plastics and even human tissue—and how to control the stresses, motions and designs of those elements.

Mechanical engineering news

From classrooms to major research to recognition for a lifetime of service, our students and faculty are proud of their accomplishments and collaborations. These stories are just a few of the many achievements made by Badger mechanical engineers.
Tyler Lee
“The department of mechanical engineering has provided me with a vast range of experiences, for which I am deeply grateful. At one point, my mornings were spent conducting NASA-funded aerospace research, afternoons dedicated to designing solar systems for hurricane victims, and evenings spent discussing animal rights policy. The diverse exposure I received has instilled in me the confidence to take on any challenge that may come my way.”
