Polymer Science Facilities

Polymer science facilities include synthesis capability for condensation, radical, and ionic polymerization. Facilities for chemical characterization include gel permeation chromatography, osmometry, infrared and NMR spectroscopy, and ESCA.

Structural studies are possible using differential scanning calorimetry, wide and small angle X-ray diffraction, and scanning or transmission electron microscopy. A full range of mechanical test apparatus is available, including Instron and MTS units. Dynamic mechanical and electrical experiments may be carried out using a vibron viscoelastometer, torsion pendulum, and dielectric testing facility. Processing equipment includes: 3/4 inch, 1 inch, and 1-1/2 inch extruders; and 75T-4 oz. injection molding.
