Materials center gets boost
With $11.7 million, the National Science Foundation renewed funding to the college's interdisciplinary Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC). Its research focuses on mechanisms associated with integrating materials onto silicon, investigating grain boundaries in high-temperature superconductors, and the role of nanostructured textured surfaces on the growth and behavior of biological systems such as cells and viruses. It also integrates research and education by involving students in research activities, developing courses and materials, and conducting outreach educational programs. MRSEC research involves more than 30 faculty and staff from six departments, the School of Veterinary Medicine, other universities, and industry.
