    Summary

My research is directed toward atomic-level understanding of the structure and chemistry of minerals, their microstructures, and surfaces, with emphasis on reactions that are taking place at or near mineral-mineral and mineral-solution interfaces. Examples include investigations into the role of surface adsorption in morphology development of finely crystalline materials, the role of surface related variables in controlling the behavior of nanocrystalline materials, and the inorganic and organic factors controlling the rates and mechanisms of dissolution of metal sulfide minerals. For details of these and other projects, see: http://www.geology.wisc.edu/~jill/banres.html.
