IE/ME 641, Design and Analysis of Manufacturing Systems, is the only required class and involves team projects with area firms. Lectures from both faculty and industry representatives, coupled with homework assignments, provide a framework for the projects. Students then work in teams, focusing on an actual industrial situation. Exposure to various practical aspects of modern manufacturing and a team environment for problem-solving are the key elements of the class. The semester culminates with formal presentations of the recommendations to members of industry.
