REU Site: Geothermal and Energy Geotechnics
(APPLICATIONS DUE 28 MAY 2012)
(APPLICATIONS DUE 28 MAY 2012)
May 7, 2012: A research team lead by Professors Jim Tinjum and Dante Fratta receives an NSF REU Site award
We are excited to announce the Geothermal and Energy Geotechnics Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site at UW-Madison.
The site is sponsored by NSF and hosted by Professors James Tinjum (Engineering Professional
Development, Geological Engineering, and Civil & Environmental Engineering) and Dante Fratta
(Geological Engineering and Civil & Environmental Engineering).
We are looking for applicants immediately. There are two year-long positions available to ambitious UW-Madison undergraduate students
and six 10 wk-long summer positions for external undergraduate students (including students from community colleges).
Program Details
Energy Geotechnics is an emerging discipline in which engineers and scientists employ principles of engineering and the
physical sciences of geology, physics, and chemistry for the advancement and design of renewable energy systems, such
as wind energy foundations and collector systems, geothermal heat pumps, and recovery of biogas in bioreactor landfills
research.
Participants would expect to work in a challenging research group while being exposed to laboratory and field experimental work,
modeling, analysis and interpretation of scientific data and engineering design of methods and systems.
