| GLE 171 - Introduction to Geological Engineering |
A high school background in math and science will be adequate for this introductory level engineering course.
One lecture each week is given by guest speakers to illustrate the range of geological engineering topics available for practice in research. Students write short summaries of these lectures and discuss topics presented by the weekly guest speakers. One class session each week is devoted to discussion of the guest speaker's topic, field visits, and project work.
A conceptual design project is assigned in the second half of the semester.
Short field trips to a quarry, building excavation site, landfill, etc. will be included in the course.
