These words, spoken by former UW president Charles Van Hise near the turn of the century, became a guiding principal of our campus. Nearly 100 years later, the need to maintain an active presence in all parts of Wisconsin is equally crucial.

At the UW-Madison College of Engineering, we're proud of the partnerships we've developed throughout the state -- especially the mutually beneficial alliances we've forged with industry. Thirteen such examples are highlighted in this publication. We also realize there is much, much more we can accomplish together. So as we head into the 21st Century, rest assured, the college's faculty, staff and students will continue to make history by being hard at work for Wisconsin.

John G. Bollinger

Lawrence A. Casper

Deanna Dietrich
