In the newsThe Center for Quick Response Manufacturing was featured in a story in the Sunday business section of the Wisconsin State Journal on June 23. The story discussed how the center helped John Deere Horicon train its suppliers in quick-response manufacturing, resulting in better, faster manufacturing processes and higher-quality products. The Trace Center's research to create a universal remote control made the news on CNN.com in the sci-tech article, "The Holy Grail of Remote Controls." Professor and Trace Center Director Gregg Vanderheiden was interviewed about the all-in-one controller that will "choreograph not just home entertainment systems but also intelligent appliances all around the house." The original Associated Press article was published internationally. Professor Raj Veeramani was quoted in the Oct. 15 Wisconsin State Journal discussing Wisconsin companies' successful use of the Internet. Part of a panel discussion at the third Wisconsin Economic Summit in Milwaukee, he said it is important for Wisconsin companies to use communications technology to successfully compete with businesses in countries with lower labor costs.
