Ferris one of three UW-Madison Guggenheim award recipients
Michael Ferris (also computer sciences) recently received a 2001 Guggenheim Fellowship Award, which recognizes his work in developing mathematical models to optimize the function of medical devices. Founded in 1925 and distributed by the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation of New York, the award honors artists, scholars and scientists who show exemplary past achievement and future promise. Two other UW-Madison professors, Florence Bernault, associate professor of African history, and Ronald Raines, professor of biochemistry and chemistry, also were among this year's 183 recipients. Chosen from a pool of more than 2,700 applicants, the 2001 winners will share financial awards of $6.59 million.
