756 Seminar in Technology and Society. I or II; 3 cr. Examination of societal context and impacts related to advances in technology in sociotechnical systems engineering. Lectures followed by focused discussions, student presentations, and group projects based on historical and current readings. Emphasis on social costs, benefits, and effects of technological development; appropriate role of technology and its management in technological systems design. Topic varies by semester; sample topics: "Social Factors and Issues in Computer Networks" and "Human Performance and Design of Complex Systems." P: Cons inst.
