Research Interests
Professor Eagan's research interests lie in exploring frameworks that can move public and private institutions toward "sustainable development." A primary interest is how both public and private institutions will deal with climate change effects and environmental management issues. His focus includes environmental risk management and linking business and environmental decision-making. In 2006 he was on sabbatical at University of Aalborg, Denmark, and Design for Sustainability group at TU Delft, the Netherlands.
Current Duties as Outreach Program Director
In addition to his research, Professor Eagan conceives, plans, conducts and evaluates adult professional education programs on industrial environmental engineering and management, and related environmental issues. Responsibilities also include program technical content and presenting selected lectures. He has coordinated over 250 programs since 1988 to over 8,000 professionals from around the world. Professor Eagan has delivered several courses using satellite technology.
Special Projects
Professor Eagan was invited to be principal investigator for a pioneering environmental course design and train-the-trainer function at Motorola in 1992-1993. Two courses were developed. The first was an awareness course, "Protecting Our Environment," which is mandatory for all Motorola employees. That course has been translated into seven languages. The second course was entitled, "Design for the Environment 1." He was also principal investigator for course design, train-the-trainer and globalization of educational material for the Design for the Environment course at AMP Inc. in 1994.
Professor Eagan has also worked with Eastman Kodak, Boeing (1996), Patagonia, United Technologies, and others on design-for-the-environment (DFE) education and tool development. Professor Eagan has worked with Seagate (1999) and Johnson & Johnson (2001), integrating environmental aspects into "Design for Six Sigma" courses. The Johnson & Johnson project included an international roll out of a tailored DFE tool.
