EP in the NewsMadison Channel 27's 10 p.m. news on Oct. 9 featured a story about a nuclear power plant design by engineering physics students Andy Smolinski and Liz Young. Professor Michael Corradini also was quoted in the story. A story about the two South Carolina State University students who spent the summer at UW-Madison was the lead article in the summer 2001 issue of University Currents, a newsletter published by the U.S. Department of Energy. The issue also featured a story about the UW Nuclear Reactor. The Sept. 16 issue of the Wisconsin State Journal (Madison) featured the Citizens' Energy Choice Exercise, which PhD student Paul Meier, Assistant Professor Paul Wilson and Professor Gerald Kulcinski developed. A Sept. 24 WSJ story also mentioned the exercise. Results of Professor Vicki Bier's study of how electricity deregulation affects nuclear safety appeared in the Sept. 10 issue of "Inside NRC," a trade newsletter, and online on the Environmental News Service. Professor Corradini participated in a discussion about nuclear energy during a segment on Wisconsin Public Televisions "WeekEnd." The segment, which aired Aug. 24 and 26, was fourth in a series of six pieces highlighting energy concerns around the state. Wendy Crone, assistant professor, was quoted in the Aug. 9 Capital Times (Madison) in a story about the university's Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) program. Crone is co-director of WISE. Nuclear News, the American Nuclear Society's monthly magazine, published a color photo of the reactor to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Professor Jerry Kulcinski and his group's Inertial Electrostatic Confinement reactor were featured on Madison Channel 27's 10 p.m. news on May 15 and 16. Work in the nuclear reactor was featured on Channel 27's 10 p.m. news on May 17 and the 5 a.m. news May 18.
