National Laboratories

Students sometimes perform thesis work off campus such as at the National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, where the 400 GeV proton synchrotron is located. One cooperative project there focused on developing a pulsed superconductive energy storage system. Additionally, neutron cross-section research has been performed using an accelerator at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California. Many plasma students have carried out research during summers at national fusion laboratories.
