Successful graduate program applicants must have a BS in engineering or physical science and an undergraduate record that indicates the ability to pursue graduate study. The Graduate School requires a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 basis) on the last 60 undergraduate credits, although probationary admission is possible if other factors indicate a reasonable probability of success in the program. The Graduate Record Examinations is required.
Candidates for the MS or PhD in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics should complete prior to entry one or more courses in each of the following areas: advanced mathematics beyond differential equations; nuclear physics; materials science, metallurgy, or solid-state physics; and heat transfer or fluid mechanics. Students enrolling from non-nuclear engineering disciplines sometimes need to take make-up courses before receiving a graduate degree.
