Catalog Description
555 Nuclear Reactor Dynamics. II, Odd Yrs; 3 cr. Basic equations and physical parameters of point reactor kinetics without feedback effects; the nuclear reactor as a total system; reactor excursions, Fuchs-Nordheim and Bethe-Tait models; space-time reactor dynamics; synthesis methods. P: NEEP 405.

Course Prerequisite(s)

Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

Textbook(s) and/or other required material

None.

Course objectives

This course is basic to nuclear reactor control and safety analysis. It is designed to provide an understanding and use of the theory and methods of nuclear reactor dynamics, and to provide an exposure to analytical and numerical methods widely used in the analysis of reactor transients. The areas of accident analysis and models, space-dependent effects, and methods of space-time analysis in reactor dynamics will be considered.
