There are many employment opportunities for electrical and computer engineers in industry, private practice, government agencies, and teaching. Many employers have a training program to ease the transition from school to industry. You will usually be placed in work as close to your interests as possible. Those interested more in research and teaching opportunities will wish to continue their education in graduate school.
Areas of opportunities are numerous, but the usual functions in electrical and computer engineering include research and development, planning, design, construction, operating and/or maintaining electronic or electrical or computer systems. Eventually many electrical engineers will supervise, manage, and administer organizations of people. The extent of your success beyond college depends upon many important factors such as your ambition, motivation, after-college study habits, and ability to deal with people.
There is really no end to the fields and functions in which you will
find electrical and computer engineers at work. The opportunities are
as diverse as the many thousands of products that electrical engineers
create, develop and improve, or will conceive in the future.
Electrical and computer engineers will be needed to solve the problems
of society in automation, energy, communications, and health.
Whatever area you choose, you will find ample and exciting
opportunities in electrical and computer engineering.
