Student newsIEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Awards: Current graduate student Mariya Lazebnik is a 2003-04 academic year recipient of the Society's Undergraduate/Pre-Graduate Scholarship. PhD student Xu Li recently received second place at the Society's International Microwave Symposium in Philadelphia. The prize winning paper in the student competition was entitled "Experimental Investigation of Microwave Imaging via Space-Time Beamforming for Breast Cancer Detection." Both are studying microwave-radar breast cancer detection under Assistant Professor Susan Hagness. ECE undergraduate student, Kyle Nesbit, won third place and $2,000 in the second-annual Intel Student Research Contest in April in Santa Clara, California. His computer architecture project entitled "Adaptive Prefetching" was one of 17 research projects funded by Intel over the last year. Nesbit recently received a Claude and Dora Richardson Distinguished Graduate Fellowship to continue his work in ECE with Professor James Smith. Hilldale Faculty/Undergraduate Awards: The following undergraduates received Hilldale Undergraduate Research Awards in 2002-03. These awards enable undergraduates to perform research with a faculty member. Each undergraduate receives $4,000. The faculty supervisor receives $1,000.
