You probably have noticed that ECE News has a new look. This biannual newsletter is part of our renewed effort to establish better communications with you--our alumni and friends. Next issue, we hope to include notes about your accomplishments. Contact us via email at ECENews@engr.wisc.edu or the address listed on page seven. We look forward to hearing from you.

ECE's main news this year is the arrival of six new faculty, who bring to the department new skills and activities. We have added three new people in computer engineering--Charlie Chen, Lei He, and Mikko Lipasti. Dan van der Weide joined ECE as part of the nanotechnology cluster hire and Giri Venkataramanan was hired in the power conversion area. David Anderson joined the faculty, in fusion and plasmas, having been on the academic staff for two decades. We are also working very hard to recruit several outstanding people in the areas of computers and networks.

Fund raising for graduate fellowships is a top priority in ECE. An endowment of scholarships at the undergraduate and graduate levels by the Claude and Dora Richardson family will play a critical role in our future success. This gives the department a great boost in an area of increasing importance.

Our faculty continue to be recognized in teaching and in research. Below you will find some of their recent acknowledgments.
