Lipasti receives donations from IBM and Intel

Assistant Professor Mikko Lipasti has recently received an equipment donation from Intel in support of his research on the value locality of store instructions. The donation included three dual-processor workstations, high-resolution monitors and equipment valued at more than $45,000. He also recently received a $40,000 Faculty Partnership Award from the IBM University Partnership Program to fund research assistants. In the past year, IBM has donated more than $1.2 million in equipment to Lipasti's lab. He and his students are using the equipment to study commercial workload implementation and characterization, and exploitation of value locality, speculation, and prediction in the processors and memory nests of commercial server systems. The equipment is also used extensively in computer architecture courses taken by both ECE and Computer Sciences students.
