Design Automation of Deep Submicron VLSI circuits in the presence of manufacturing-induced variations: 1) robust analysis with incomplete variation/correlation information; 2) analysis with non-Gaussian variation modeling; 3) efficient analysis with high dimension of variation sources [collaboration with Statistics department]; 4) finding critical timing paths under variations and intersecting areas between testing and statistical static timing analysis.
Parallelism for IC-CAD: 1) studying advances in parallel optimization with application to IC-CAD problems [collaboration with ISyE department], 2) parallel IC-CAD for various computing environments (i.e., grid of heterogeneous multi-core machines), 3) studying advantages of parallelism: potential for generating optimal solution for NP-hard CAD problems, improve scalability with runtime and quality of solution.
Physical synthesis: interactions between logic synthesis and physical domains: 1) for consideration of interconnect effects on delay and congestion; 2) for accounting for within-die variations and spatial correlations.
Power-awareness and power-management techniques.
