    Summary

My research interests lie in three major areas of semiconductor-laser device physics : high-power, coherent edge-emitting lasers; high-power, coherent grating surface-emitting lasers; and intersubband-transition emitters . The first two are based on one- and two-dimensional Active Photonic Crystal (APC) structures, respectively, for insuring long-range spatial coherence. The third has to do with electron transitions between the subbands of quantum-well structures or the energy levels in quantum-box structures, and is focused on achieving ultrahigh-efficiency, continuous-wave (CW) operation in the mid-infrared (IR) wavelength range : 3-5 microns

High-power coherent diode lasers have many applications such as as sources for high-speed, high-resolution laser printing; generators of blue light via harmonic conversion; and intersatellite optical communications.

Intersubband CW lasers emitting in the mid-IR have a wide range of applications from high-sensitivity spectroscopy for non-invasive medical diagnostics and/or chemical-agent detection to free-space communications and infrared countermeasures.
