Catalog Description

301 Transmission Lines and Networks Laboratory. I, II; 1 cr. Experiments demonstrating the principles of lumped and distributed transmission lines for transient and sinusoidal excitation. Standing wave patterns, impedance matching, and characteristics of microwave devices. P: ECE 271; ECE 420 or con reg.

Prerequisite knowledge and/or skills

Concurrent registration in ECE 420, background in transmission lines and simple microwave circuits.

None

Course objectives

To become familiar with basic laboratory measurement procedures and concepts in transmission line and microwave circuits.

Topics covered

Low pass filters.
Artificial transmission lines.
Transients on transmission lines.
Impedance measurements at 500 MHz.
Impedance matching by means of stubs.
Introduction to microwaves.

Class/laboratory schedule

six 50 minute lectures during semester;
six three hour labs through semester.
