University of Wisconsin-Madison Engineering Summer Program Abbott Plant Tour

On Friday July 6th, 2012, GES LC Facilities Management in conjunction with the UW Engineering Recruiting Team and Corporate Talent Acquisition sponsored a tour of twenty-four (24) 11th and 12th graders enrolled in the UW College of Engineering diversity pipeline program titled the "Engineering Summer Program" (ESP). ESP is a 6 week residential summer program designed to assist underrepresented students to "explore career options, prepare them for the rigors of college, develop strong skills in math and science, and experience first-hand what it is like to be an engineering student".

The students were lead on tours of the ADD AP8B Diagnostics and GPO AP16 Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Processes. Additionally, the students received presentations on the traditional engineering roles at Abbott, the Abbott company overview, and the benefits of interning. They also heard from a panel of current and former Abbott interns who spoke about their experiences at Abbott and as in engineering student.

The UW ESP Abbott Tour has been an annual event for Abbott for the past 5 years.
