CONNECTING YOUR COMPANY
WITH INNOVATIVE STUDENTS
The Biomedical Engineering Student Design Consortium allows you to provide real world design challenges in medicine and biology for students to resolve through innovative engineering solutions. Design projects provide biomedical engineering students with hands-on experiences that stimulate their technical competencies and help them acquire the practical design skills your company needs.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
Introduce innovative students to your industry

Student Design Projects:
Sponsor a biomedical engineering student project for your company. A select student group will work on a client-based biomedical design project that you suggest under the auspices of a faculty member.

Targeted Summer Internships:
Your student project group members can continue their project during summer internships at your company and receive course credit.

Student Co-ops:
If desired, your student group members can take an optional semester-long co-op at your company to work on their project and receive course credit.

Access to Students:
By sponsoring a student design project, you will encourage students to acquire the technical skills needed for your company, starting from an early stage of their engineering training. You can track potential hires throughout their educational development.

Exposure:
Your sponsorship will be acknowledged in departmental publications and websites and displayed at student design project functions, giving your company direct exposure to students, the university community and the public.

Student Presentations and Reports:
Sponsors will be invited to attend student presentations of all projects. Your company can participate in student evaluations and you will also receive copies of student project reports.

GOALS OF THE CONSORTIUM
Prepare a student to meet your company's challenges
Our unique program promotes design throughout the education of biomedical engineers. Design is the essence of engineering; it transforms scientific knowledge into reality. Remarkable advances in biotechnology and medicine demand that biomedical engineers receive practical training to bring the promises of these advances to fruition:

Creating new medical instruments

Making the world accessible to people with disabilities

Developing new therapeutic devices and treatments
Design is best learned by increments through hands-on experience. Students take design courses every semester during their sophomore through senior years, working in teams on projects for real clients. This team-based learning in design courses enables early and intermediate level students to learn from their more advanced peers.
This novel approach gives students a balanced education, which incorporates clinical and industry issues. Students can have an optional co-op experience with a medical device manufacturer, hospital or laboratory.

JOINING THE CONSORTIUM
The annual fee for membership in the Biomedical Engineering Student Design Consortium is $6,000.
Your membership fee provides sponsorship of a student design project culminating in a report and student group presentations every semester. Sponsorship of multiple projects is encouraged and available at reduced incremental amounts.
