The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UW-Madison offers a challenging academic environment that demands the utmost of its students' abilities, creativity and discipline. High admission standards and a rigorous curriculum attract top students. Central to the student experience is the ChemE department's synergistic relationship between the world-class research program that creates new knowledge and the undergraduate education program that trains the next generation of leaders in chemical engineering.
Each year, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering awards approximately 100 bachelor of science degrees, making this one of the largest programs in the United States. The BS in chemical engineering requires 133 degree credits. While the majority of our undergraduate students are Wisconsin residents, many do come from other states and countries around the world. The undergraduate group includes one-third women and about 15 percent international students. Many distinguished alumni of the chemical engineering department have contributed to society as leaders in industry, government and higher education. Gifts from alumni and friends of the department provide scholarships for top students and allow significant enhancements to the educational program. |
