In memoriam

Robert B. Beckman (PhD '44) professor emeritus of chemical engineering at the University of Maryland passed away in December 2001. Robert served as head of his department for five years and as dean of engineering at Maryland for 11 years, returning to the chemical engineering department in 1977, where he was deeply involved in teaching the senior-level design course until his retirement in 1987. He was named a Fellow of AIChE; he was active with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology; and he received the Centennial Award of the American Society for Engineering Education. The University of Maryland Chemical Engineering Department is accepting contributions toward a scholarship fund in his honor (College Park, Maryland 20742).

Delmore O.G. Ehlers (BS '49), retired manager at Schlitz Brewing Company, passed away recently. His son, Delmore, notes that his father "was a proud UW supporter. We were proud of his tremendous post-WWII effort to get his ChE degree."
