Banbang S. Adiwijaya (BS '95), married Caroline Hartono this past August in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Brian S. Mitchell (PhD '91) was recently promoted to full professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tulane. He is currently Associate Director of the newly formed Tulane Institute for Macromolecular Engineering and Science, supported by NASA. Brian is on sabbatical this year completing a textbook entitled Materials Engineering and Science to be published by John Wiley and Sons. He also received a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to spend a portion of his sabbatical year at the German Aerospace Center in Köln, Germany where he will study environmental barrier coatings for aerospace engine components.

Anditya Rahardianto (BS '01) reports that he is currently a PhD student at the UCLA Department of Chemical Engineering.

John M. Torkelson (BS '78) was named Walter P. Murphy Professor of Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University. He recently completed a five-year term as a half-time Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research and is taking his first sabbatical leave in more than 19 years at Northwestern. He plans to spend his year writing manuscripts and proposals that have been backlogged as a result of his stint as associate dean, and moving ahead in new directions.

Michael C. Williams (BS '59, MS '60, PhD '64) never seems to slow down despite the fact that he has now retired for the second time, first from the ChE department at UC Berkeley, and recently from the ChE department at the University of Alberta. Bob Bird attended the retirement party in Edmonton where Mike was recognized for his distinguished academic career working in the areas of rheology, polymers, composite materials, and fluid mechanics. His colleague Janet Elliott noted, "Mike Williams is an exemplary academic. His work is always of the highest scientific quality, from new ideas to the finest details, and he truly cares about sharing his knowledge." He has published over 150 papers and has co-chaired or been invited as a keynote or plenary speaker at a variety of high-level scientific meetings. His many contributions have been recognized by the Stanley Mason Award of the Canadian Society of Rheology. Bob also notes that Mike was the driving force behind the ChE softball team when he was a student at UW.

James Moy

Correction

In our last issue, we neglected to mention the date of James Moy's BS degree from UW (BS '57, MS '58). Jim hopes that his classmates from his undergraduate years will remember him. Perhaps this photo of him rowing on Lake Mendota will jog a few memories as well.
