Emeritus NewsEdwin Lightfoot has been awarded his second honorary doctorate, this from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) (the first was awarded by the Technical University of Norway, Trondheim in 1985). The award was sponsored by Professor John Villadsen of the DTU Department of Biotechnology, a long-time friend of our department who visited Madison many years ago to collaborate with Warren Stewart. Ed says, "I now look forward to returning to a certain snobby restaurant in Zürich, where my host was greeted by, `Guten abend Herr Doktor Doktor Professor...' He will now have to give me three Doktors!" Thomas Chapman, writes that "One of the advantages of being at NSF is that so many old friends and alumni pass through our offices and the Washington area" (see "Small world.") Tom and his wife, Donna Breslin, are on the board of the local UW alumni club. The group gathers to watch Badger football every week in the fall. Tom coordinated the club's scholarship program this year.
