George G. Heard (B.S. 1934) passed away on June 27, 1998 and his wife, Margaret Donnelly Heard (B.S. 1934), passed away on January 27, 1999. George worked in Chicago for Sinclair Oil and Faber Laboratories from 1934 to 1944. He owned and operated a dairy farm and alfalfa processing plant in Texas from 1944 to 1957. He spent two years as an engineering consultant at the Iraqi government oil refinery and finished his career at Mason & Hangar, Silas Mason Co. Inc., from 1960 to 1979. Margaret was the first female graduate from the UW Department of Chemical Engineering. She worked on the Manhattan Project in Chicago during World War II and later taught math and science in public and private schools. They are survived by a son, three daughters, and eleven grandchildren.
