Japan earthquake: Letter from an alumnus

Kô Higashitani (MS, 1970, PhD, 1973), Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Kyôto University, presented a lecture on the afternoon of March 11 at the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials on the Katahira Campus of Tôhoku University, following which, "there was a horrible shaking and swaying." Kô wrote to Bob Bird detailing his experiences as he made his way back to Kyôto over the several days following the magnitude 9.0 earthquake. Bob has translated the letter.
