• Develops novel photonic devices that advance scientific knowledge and help both U.S. industry's competitiveness worldwide and the optoelectronics industry in Wisconsin.

• Pursues research in high-power coherent semiconductor lasers, intersubband-transition quantum-confinement optical devices, quantum-box lasers, photonic-crystal lasers and passive devices, guided-wave optics, and novel materials for photonic devices.

• Interacts with industry, including Alfalight Inc., Novalux, DAYLIGHT Solutions, Isomark LLC and General Dynamics.
