From the Director

It is common knowledge that technological advances and global competition have changed the environment in which U.S. manufacturers operate. Customer expectations with respect to product variety, quality and delivery have increased significantly, leading to new challenges for the manufacturing enterprise.

Within the organization, production managers are expected to find new ways to support a manifold increase in product variety and meet production targets with minimal inventories, shorter production lead times and lower costs. Product engineers are seeking new ways to rapidly introduce new products to exploit emerging market opportunities.

Across the enterprise, supply chain managers are seeking new ways to complement their in-house operations with a supply base that has the capacity and ability to quickly respond to seasonal fluctuations in customer requests.

In this changing environment, Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM), with its focus on lead time reduction across the extended enterprise, provides a unifying theory that enables organizations to convert these challenges into growth opportunities. The focus on time transcends organizational barriers and provides a consolidated perspective on what it will take to be competitive in the future.

In partnership with multiple industries, the Center for Quick Response Manufacturing is constantly developing theories, techniques and tools to support lead time reduction. If you believe the principles and theories of Quick Response Manufacturing might be beneficial to your organization, do get in touch with us. We would be happy to have you as partners in a shared QRM journey.
