Geo-Engineering Labs

These labs are fully equipped to perform both standard and specialized geotechnical, geoenvironmental, and geophysical tests. The Environmental Geotechnics Laboratory has a variety of equipment used for experiments dealing with flow of groundwater and transport of contaminants. Special equipment is available for large scale testing of hydraulic and mechanical properties of earthen and waste materials. Equipment is also available for field measurements at waste containment facilities and hazardous waste sites. The geophysical laboratory is fully equipped to conduct a broad range of electrical, electromagnetic, and seismic surveys.

A large test pit for full-scale soil structure interaction testing and an MTS system for automated static and dynamic loading are available in the Wisconsin Structures and Materials Testing Laboratory. Equipment is also vailable in the Geotechnical Laboratory for compressibility, strength, and dynamic characteristics measurement of earthen materials. A complete suite of geosynthetic test equipment is also available. A drill rig is available for geotechnical and geoenvironmental field exploration and testing using electric cone, flat dilatometer, and geophysical test equipment.
