RESEARCH

The department has a growing research program.
In 2004, the department had more than $11 million of funded research. About 50 percent of the research was state-supported, 33 percent from the federal government, and the balance from a variety of sources, including the private sector. The department has more than 180 active research projects.

Since 2000, department faculty and staff have received more than 20 U.S. patents.
-
Four current faculty members have received prestigious National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator, PECASE or CAREER awards.
-
Five centers and two consortia are affiliated with or housed within the department.

DEVELOPMENT
In 2004, the CEE department received $262,522 in gift funds, including:

$92,006 for the CEE discretionary fund

$57,776 for professorships

$53,183 for graduate fellowships

$47,424 for undergraduate scholarships

$8,133 for program support

$4,000 for center and space renovations
Of 5,364 living CEE alumni, 3.3 percent, or 188 people, made contributions directly to the department.
In addition, more than 40 outstanding pledges total $290,000.
EDUCATION
-
The department takes pride in the quality of educational instruction it provides. One measure of this quality is student evaluations. During the past three years, the average teaching rating for the department is 4.02 on a 5.00 scale.

Overall, the department enrolls and graduates approximately 25 percent female and two percent minority students. The department is working, with industry input, to diversify its student body even more, to help those students succeed, and to market them to recruiters.

The department is experiencing a growth in enrollments at the undergraduate and PhD levels.

Approximately 15 percent of our graduating undergraduates attend graduate school directly after completing their bachelor's degree.

In 2004, the department had $69,750 in undergraduate scholarships and awarded 67 scholarships. In addition, the department offers five funded graduate fellowships.
