| CEE 655 - Computerized Land Information Systems |
Students taking CEE 655 should have a basic understanding of spatial measurements, cartography, or the use of maps.
CEE 655 helps provide a comprehensive education in the funadamentals of civil and environmental engineering through introduction to the basic concepts and application of land and geographic information systems. A further objective is development of communication skills through oral presentation and report writing.
Two one-hour lectures and one 1.5-hour lab per week each week of the semester.
The following statement indicates which of the following considerations are included in this course: economic, environmental, ethical, political, societal, health and safety, manufacturability, sustainability.
The economics of LIS/GIS are considered as the most significant factor in successful enterprise-wide implementation. Societal benefits, such as access to information and democratization, are included in a number of lectures. Environmental considerations are included in a number of the applications discussed in lecture and used in the laboratory.

Students should be able to select appropriate LIS/GIS technologies and methods to apply to problems. They should be able to elucidate governing principles underlying spatial representations and spatial analysis. They should know the principles and structure of computer programs.
