| CEE 641 - Highway Bridges |
Entering students must be able to complete basic design of steel and reinforced concrete structures.
(required) AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
Upon completing this class students are expected to have the basic skills necessary to perform preliminary design of various types of simple highway bridges satisfying AASHTO LRFD code requirements.
This class primarily fulfills part of the Departmental objective of providing a comprehensive education in engineering fundamentals.
Class and Departmental Outcomes:
This class involves multiple small design projects completed by all students as homework problems and an individual major design project selected and presented by each student at the semester end. Students are expected to-
a.) be able to understand AASHTO simplified methods of loading and load distributing loads in bridge structures; (Dept outcomes 2.0 , 2.4)
b.) be able to select an appropriate structure type and complete the preliminary design of various types of bridge systems using AASHTO LRFD methods. (Dept 2.4, 6.1, 8.0)
Student assessment is through their bridge design homework problems.
