Topics covered

Relationship of course to undergraduate degree program objectives and outcomes
This course primarily serves students in the department. The information below describes how the course contributes to the undergraduate program objectives.

This class primarily fulfills part of the Departmental objective of providing a comprehensive education in engineering fundamentals.

Class and Departmental Outcomes:

This class involves multiple small design projects completed by all students as homework problems and an individual major design project selected and presented by each student at the semester end. Students are expected to-

a.) be able to understand AASHTO simplified methods of loading and load distributing loads in bridge structures; (Dept outcomes 2.0 , 2.4)

b.) be able to select an appropriate structure type and complete the preliminary design of various types of bridge systems using AASHTO LRFD methods. (Dept 2.4, 6.1, 8.0)

Assessment of student progress toward course objectives

Student assessment is through their bridge design homework problems.
